30 nations began competition to fill CONCACAF's three slots for World Cup
France '98 in March 1996. No CONCACAF nation receives an automatic berth
in World Cup France '98.
On November 16, 1997, the final qualification competitions were played, with Mexico, the United States, and Jamaica receiving the regions three berths.
